New Long-Term Apartment
The Ronald McDonald House of Fort Worth (RMHFW) is proud to unveil a newly renovated Long-Term Apartment. This new apartment guarantees that families can stay together regardless of household size and ensures that those staying at RMHFW for an extended period have a comfortable space to stay as long as they need it.
The Long-Term Apartment was a perfect match for Gabe’s family. Gabe was born with multiple congenital heart defects and underwent his first open-heart surgery at just two days old. His family traveled to Fort Worth so that he could receive life-saving treatment at Cook Children’s Medical Center.
Gabe’s childhood is drastically different from that of most four-year-olds. Because he is immunocompromised, he must live isolated from others. His social interactions are limited, and he travels to and from the hospital in a fully enclosed stroller to ensure he is protected from germs that could risk his health.
So far, Gabe and his family have stayed at the Ronald McDonald House for 270 days. They plan to stay 112 more days while Gabe gets well.
It was clear that Gabe’s family needed a long-term solution that would allow them to be close to Gabe’s treatment while also allowing Gabe the opportunity to roam freely without worrying about his health.
That’s why the Ronald McDonald House Long-Term Apartment is such a difference maker for Gabe and his family of six. The apartment gives families facing their child’s medical crisis more space to create a temporary home when they are forced to spend months away from family and friends.
While Gabe’s parents and doctors focus on his health, Gabe can focus on what matters most: being a kid. The Long-Term Apartment gives Gabe more freedom than he’s ever had.
Because of your support, families like Gabe’s have peace knowing they have a place to call home. Your generosity gives our families the gift of togetherness during a time when unity is more meaningful than ever.
