Five-year-old Miriam is a vibrant little girl who loves everything Disney, especially Princess Elsa.
But in August 2023, Miriam kept getting ill, and after her grandmother passed away in October 2023, her health deteriorated. She could barely walk during Halloween; at Christmas, she opened her gifts and immediately went to bed. The next day, she didn’t get out of bed. “December 27, 2024, is etched on my mind,” Sarah, Miriam’s mom, shared. “Miriam said she needed to potty and couldn’t get up and walk.” Sarah rushed Miriam to the emergency room, where tests found she had COVID-19, influenza, and something more.
Cancer.
In that instant, life for Miriam and her family changed forever. Miriam was flown three hours away to Fort Worth. The next day, her medical team performed a bone marrow aspiration and spinal tap.
When Miriam’s family discovered her life-threatening diagnosis, they entered a world of worry and fear. But, when they heard about the Ronald McDonald House of Fort Worth (RMHFW), they discovered a path forward.
Miriam is now staying with her family, steps away from the hospital where she receives the chemotherapy that’s saving her life.
Miriam has lived at the Ronald McDonald House of Fort Worth for 210 days so far. She wears a new Disney princess dress every day, and on chemo days, Miriam’s mom lets her have as many costume changes as she wants. Princess Elsa is still her favorite.
“As soon as you walk through the door, you are welcome. I knew when Miriam stepped foot here, she felt at home. RMHFW is Miriam’s home-away-from-home,” Miriam’s mom shared.
