Making a Difference Regardless of Age

Will Birbeck, a junior in high school, has been a constant and consistent volunteer in our Yellow Shoe Crew (YSC) for years now. After hearing about The Ronald McDonald House of Fort Worth (RMHFW) from his older sister Annalise, Will was instantly interested in becoming involved with the House.

Will has supported RMHFW and our families by managing the front desk, stuffing welcome bags and setting up family events and activities. Last year, he even spent his 16th birthday at RMHFW. Will chose to celebrate his big day by cooking a meal for our families with his closest friends and family.

Through his hands-on involvement, Will has discovered he enjoys helping the families at RMHFW and being able to make a difference regardless of his age. He hopes to continue being involved in nonprofit organizations and other volunteering opportunities throughout his life. As he goes to college next year, he mentioned that although he is not sure, he thinks volunteering may influence his career path because of how much he enjoys helping other people.

The Yellow Shoe Crew (YSC) is the student volunteer program at the Ronald McDonald House of Fort Worth (RMHFW). This group supports the mission of the House by performing various tasks that help maintain the comfort of our guests and boosting the morale to both families and children.

The YSC program is an amazing way for students and young adults to understand not only our nonprofit’s mission, but the power of philanthropy and helping others. Will is a great example of this.

Applications are accepted year-round; however, admittance into the program is held once each semester. Spring semester deadline: December 31 | Fall semester deadline: May 31
