The aluminum can is valuable, but this small metal pop tab is like a gold nugget to the Ronald McDonald House! It is easily removed from the can, and is clean. Collecting pop tabs is a great way to teach kids about philanthropy and the importance of recycling, and raise funds to help children and their families at the same time.
Unlike the urban legend states, pop tabs do NOT support medical treatment of any kind including chemotherapy or dialysis; however, pop tabs do support the operations of Ronald McDonald Houses across the country. This popular fundraiser benefits seriously ill children by helping provide a place for them and their families to stay while they are out of town for medical treatment.
HOW DO THE POP TABS HELP THE RMHFW?
The tab of an aluminum can is pure aluminum unlike the rest of the can, which contains paint and other residue. Twice a month, we take the pop tabs to a local aluminum recycler where we receive cash in exchange for the pop tabs. This money is used for House operations; the tabs do not pay for treatment or night stays. Hundreds of thousands of pop tabs have been collected to benefit Ronald McDonald Houses.
While the whole can is valuable as a recyclable, the RMHFW does not have the storage capacity to collect the whole can. The aluminum tabs are smaller and easier to handle; they are much easier to handle when large volumes are delivered.
HOW DO I COLLECT POP TABS?
You may make your collection container from any cardboard box, milk jug or large zip-lock baggies. Decorating them will bring attention to them and remind folks about saving the pop tabs. You may also stop by our House and pick up some pop tab collection houses to display. We have small and large houses which you may use.
WHO CAN PARTICIPATE?

WHERE DO I DROP OFF THE POP TABS?
Each group is responsible for delivering their collected pop tabs. The Ronald McDonald House of Fort Worth is unable to pick up the tabs from your group, school or organization. Pop tabs can be dropped off at the Ronald McDonald House seven days a week between the hours of 9:00am-8:00pm.
Tabs can also be taken to any local recycling center. When dropping off tabs at any recycling center, you can simply get a check and then mail it to the Ronald McDonald House of Fort Worth. You will receive an acknowledgement of your gift.
